Our Milk Parlor.
Our milking facility has 8 head stalls and there is room to expand our actual milking equipment. As of now we use four milking machines on an inline system. Our system is unique in that it has a gravity flow system rather than a forced flow system. This makes our milk quality for making cheese at its best. We have about 150 goats right now. We milk twice a day. The average time it took to milk last year was about 2 hours. We feed a naked oats and barley mixture from a local farmer. The mixture is run through a machine to crush the oats; this is done just prior to us going to pick up our grain, each time. This makes our grain very fresh and full of nutrition. We are feeding a high quality hay also from a local farmer. This makes our feeding program very consistent. We also supplement our program with free choice minerals. Prior to our kidding season we start giving our does 1 TBSP of cider vinegar once a week. We also give some extra copper, kelp, and linseed meal as well as dolomite lime #65 once a day. We feed these extras all through the milking season. The goats have access to fresh grass in our pasture all year long. We don’t use pesticides or other harmful chemicals in our pasture or near where our goats browse.
For our veterinary needs, we try and use natural remedies for most of the ailments, though if needed we do use the Veterinarian and his wares to treat the goats.
In our milk room we have a 250 gallon refrigerated holding tank, which stirs the milk. The recorder on the wall helps us watch the temperature on the tank, so the milk is at a constant temperature.
We pride ourselves on having a clean facility and an open door policy. Regardless if you’re a child, a parent, or an inspector feel free to come and inquire about our farm.
